What if I become sick after hours or on a weekend or holiday?
If you feel that you have a life-threatening emergency, please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. For illnesses needing attention when the office is closed, call our regular phone number at 704-316-1800. A nurse will assist you and will coordinate the call with the physician who is on call.
How long does it take to get lab results back and how will I be notified?
Lab results are normally back within 1-2 business days. Your physician will let you know if this takes longer depending on the lab test performed. He or she will also let you know how you will be notified. If there is an abnormal result you will be notified as soon as possible.
If I need to be hospitalized, who will take care of me while I am in the hospital?
A team of highly trained inpatient specialists, Presbyterian Inpatient Care Specialists (PICS). PICS will do the hospital admission, as well as provide excellent inpatient care during your hospital stay. Our physicians and PICS communicate important information about your hospital stay, including any follow-up you might need after you are discharged.
Should I bring my medications with me to the office at the time of my appointment?
It is helpful for you to bring your medications to the office. If this is not possible, please bring a comprehensive list of all medications that you are taking. Also, remember to ask your doctor while you are in the office to refill medications if necessary.
Do I need a referral from my primary physician to see a specialist or to have special testing done?
This depends on the requirements of you health insurance company. Many require members to establish as a patient with a primary physician as a patient and to be evaluated by him or her prior to scheduling an appointment with a specialist. It is helpful to have your primary physician coordinate care for you to provide continuity and to ensure that you receive services which are medically indicated. Please contact your health insurance company if you have further questions about this.
How long does it take to have my medications refilled?
Please allow at least 24 business hours for our office to call in prescriptions. It is very important to call the office prior to running out of your medications. Please remember to ask your physician to refill all of your medications as needed when you are here for an office visit. This will save you time by not having to call our office to request refills.
